Village News, 6/1/17

Dear Village Neighbors / Friends,

Short report today with a reminder that we put the enews out on Thursdays; please plan accordingly.

Graduation and Commissioning – Kathy D’Amato’s daughter, Emily D'Amato graduated from the US Air Force Academy on 24 May with proud family and friends in attendance. The newly commissioned Second Lieutenant will report to Royal Air Force Mildenhall at the end of July.

Village West Vikings Swim Team - Swim season has started, but it's not too late to join the Village West Vikings swim team! Join us for fun times and great exercise! This is one of the few sports where the entire family can be involved.

But I'm not a great swimmer - You do not need to be a star swimmer. If you can swim across the pool, we can teach you everything you need to know. The person you are competing against most is yourself! See how much your swimming improves during the season!

But I can't practice in the mornings - We practice in the late afternoon/early evening until school is out. Then we switch to morning practices 5 days a week or evening practices 3 days a week. Meets are Monday evenings and Saturday mornings.

But I have other activities that conflict - We have lots of members who combine swimming with other activities, like other sports, summer camps, and vacations. Just come when you can and you'll still have a ton of fun!

For the younger set (4-8) who are comfortable in the water but do not yet know how to swim, we offer the Little Vikings program. It meets daily at 6:15 during school, and at 9 AM once school is out. We’re thinking of adding Little Vikings evening practices next year, let us know if you'd be interested. For more information on the Vikings swim team, go to our website www.villagewestvikings.com or email us at villagewestvikings@gmail.com.

Refrigerator Needed - The Village West Vikings Swim Team is in need of a working refrigerator. If you have an old (or new!) fridge you'd like to get rid of, email us at villagewestvikings@gmail.com and we'll come pick it up. We are a 501(c)3 organization, so your donated fridge will be tax-deductible.

Hope to see you at the VW Pool 50th celebration this Saturday. I’ll be the one hovering near the Rice and Spice Food line. Understand our Springfield District Supervisor, Pat Herrity will be there as will our Congressman, Gerry Connolly.
